Brief explanation of the ISO standard

The headquarter of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) are located in Geneva, and has started its activity in February 1947 with the aim of harmonizing standard principles around the world, creating facilities for international trade, supporting producer and consumer, etc., with 25 members. Over time, with the accession of other countries, the organization currently has 132 members, including 90 main members, 34 correspondent member and 8 common members, which the Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran was among its main members and contributed to the development of international standards. The various standards, currently numbering 1,950, have been compiled by 2856 committees and subcommittees and more than four hundred experts.

What is ISO 9001?

The ISO 9001 standard was developed in 1974 and then revised in 1974 and 1994. Major changes occurred in the third edition of ISO 9001 in 2000, and in 2008 the process approach and summarizing the documentation were one of the main changes to the standard. In the fifth edition of 2015, the process approach is still emphasized and additionally new managerial theories have been added, including looking at the organization as an open system and new approaches, including risk management and knowledge management. The quality management standard is based on eight principles:

  • Customer Focus
  • Leader ship
  • Involvement of people
  • Process Approach
  • System approach to management
  • Continual Improvement
  • Factual approach to decision making
  • Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Other Famous ISO World Standards:

ISO 14000: Environmental Quality Standard

ISO 16949 Standard: Automotive Quality Assurance Standard

ISO 17799 Standard: Information Security Management Standard

OHSAS 18000: Occupational Safety and Health Management Standard

Given the above mentioned long and difficult road traveled by standards such as ISO 9001, it’s good to know that when an industrial group is successful in getting ISO certifications, it has satisfied a number of requirements. It should be noted that many other environmental rules, human rights, human resources, etc. should also be observed in order to produce a product with the latest knowledge of the day and international safety principles. Paying attention to the back ground, records, and standard labels of each product will make you more confident in your goods.
